The 2" x 72" A/O J FLEX sanding belt by Combat Abrasives is designed for finishing and sharpening work. It also works wonders for edge finishing on KYDEX® holsters and sheaths. The A/O is for "aluminum oxide" abrasive media and the "J" flex refers to an even greater flexible backing material that is often used without a contact wheel and some slack in the belt so it can softly contour many types of surfaces, including rounder shapes (e.g. knife handles).
This version is the 400-grit aluminum oxide "J" Flex sanding belt. It can be used for profiling (creating the basic shape of the knife or cutting instrument), sharpening (adding the edge to a blade), or for shaping the handle of a knife. The lower the grit number, the more aggressive the removal of stock will be. It is wise to have multiple grit versions of these belts available in your shop to work from a starting point on a new project (where you want to remove material quickly) down to the refined shaping and finishing (where material is removed at a slower pace, but more refined.)
